Hi and welcome back to Expat in Lisbon!
Today we are going to check out one of my favorite places to get dessert in Lisbon: Landeau Chocolate. This little store packs a huge chocolately punch by serving up slices of “devilishly good” (according to the New York Times) chocolate cake that is right up my alley.
The cake itself is soft and fluffy, and a bit on the bittersweet spectrum when it comes to chocolate. The recipe is top secret, but from what I can tell very high quality chocolate goes into its creation. This cake is perfect with an espresso (a “bica” in Portuguese) or a glass of cool skim milk.
I spoke with the owner Sofia about the cake. She is usually there behind the counter selling her trademark slices. She said that the story is very successful and in fact many people come from the downtown just to try her cake.
In my opinion, it is certainly worth the visit. Landeau Chocolate is located in LX Factory, a gritty and industrial part of Lisbon that used to be a huge textile and printing zone. Nowadays it is home to boutique shops, restaurants, hairdressers, an amazing bookstore, and Landeau Chocolate. Come by and check it out if you want to indulge your chocolate addiction!
You can get to LX Factory from downtown Lisbon by taking the 738 or 720 bus from Marquês de Pombal and stopping at the Calvario stop. From there ask any local where LX Factory is and they should be able to point the way.
The address is:
LX Factory
Rua Rodrigues de Faria, 103
1300 Lisboa
Thanks again for stopping by Expat in Lisbon.
As always,
